Foundations are almost ready for the kit. Unlike most of our houses which so far face the Atlantic Ocean, this one is overlooking the North Sea. |
This shows the ground floor of the house. From this angle it looks relatively small but the Isle Ornsay is a big house. |

Shetland and Skye are not exactly close to each other so we have never actually met Duncan & Susan. The whole project has been handled over the phone. We therefore asked Susan to send us some photos of themselves. This one is Duncan. It is notable that it was Susan who sent the photos because she is conspicuous by her absence from any of them! |
This is Michael, hard at work on the wallplate. |

....and this is Jonathan who is more interested in where he can park his car once the new house has been completed. |
The front elevation in the early stages. Most of the trusses have now been lifted into place and the blocks are starting to pile up around the site. |

The next three photographs show steady progress. In this one the sarking has been started and the first lines of blocks are appearing around the base. |
A snowy February day although you wouldn't know it looking at the lovely blue sky. In this picture it's easy to see where the Velux windows will fit in. |

There's lots happening now. The slating has started, the blocks are climbing the walls and the windows are starting to go in too. |
The Finished House. It faces roughly South East and out over the North sea so plenty of windows to take advantage of the views and to maximise the light, especially during the long dark Shetland winters. The Thomsons have chosen to have the windows at the front instead of french doors. |

The end gable also has plenty windows in it. The large double windows towards the front are on the side of the dining room while the smaller ones to the rear are in the kitchen. |
The dining room end of the kitchen/dining area. This shows the advantages of all those windows although it's a winter's night out there in this photo. |

And this is the kitchen end. |
At the opposite side of the house, there is a large lounge. This is the same size as the combined kitchen and dining room. |

The family room is in the centre of the house. The windows across the front are the ones you see across the middle of the front elevation. You can just see the velux windows at the top of the photo and a wee bit of the upper floor balcony too. |
Looking back from the family room towards the back of the house. The double doors to the left of the photo lead into the living room. |
