Above - "Aislig" our Kilmarie home We arrived for yet another short break on Skye, in October 2002, with a plan to find somewhere to buy and move in. That's a plan? Looking back, no, but that was the extent of it. We knew Skye quite well, and we had done other research before we came. We decided early on that buying something old and doing it up was not realistic. Advice had said that a new-build was the best option. Easier said than done. We didn't have a plot to build on. We knew no builders. We were absentees who couldn't keep an eye on day-to-day progress, so we started talking to SkyeHomes, and asking lots of silly questions. What impressed us first was the traditional style of the designs. Once we plumped for the 'full build' deal, everything seemed to fall into place: the plot, the planning, the package, the detail, all supported by the people, their patience, the personal attention and the care. And although we chose to buy, we never felt as though we had been the subject of any 'pressure selling'. The phrase 'blank canvas' kept recurring. We felt part of the exercise, having a say in what should go where, and in what shape, while all the time we knew there was professional expertise at work, in design and building, to shepherd us away from mistakes and pitfalls, and to suggest improvements. And here we are, residents of a wonderful house in a wonderful setting, just over a year after those first silly questions, still delighted that SkyeHomes were there to answer them."
